I had triple bypass surgery in 1999 and a piece of plaque from a vessel of my heart dislodged, traveled from the heart and lodged in my brain resulting in a stroke. The stroke caused 40% vision loss on the right side of both eyes.
I learned of VRT from my wife’s relentless search to help me recover. We kept searching and shortly after, we found that VRT was being offered in our backyard.
Performing the therapy requires a major time commitment, but you make the commitment part of your routine. Instead of waking up and reading the newspaper, I would wake up and begin the therapy.
I noticed improvements within about six to nine months of starting the therapy. I was gaining confidence and started cautiously doing simple tasks. I started reading the newspaper and playing golf. I went to an independent optometrist for an unbiased evaluation of my progress. The doctor noticed no improvements in my vision; however, three months later there were improvements. I felt confident enoughto fire up my table saw and start working again in my garage.
I still struggle with names, which I used to be great at remembering, and it’s still difficult to learn new technologies, but VRT has made a huge difference in my life. I am playing golf again; this time with my wife and I am even able to drive the new golf cart she bought for me. I have also gone back to work part-time where else but at our golf course!
